Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!December 12, 2010Finally, my house is starting to look like Christmas. We decorated our tree over a week ago, but with our very busy schedule and a really rambunctious new walker, it took a bit longer to lovingly place the rest of my Christmas decor. My apologies to everyone who has been in my home in the last two weeks and had to dodge the mountains of boxes.
While in Mississippi when my nephew was born, I could not help but notice the wonderful wreaths that graced the hospital room doors on the maternity floor. While that does not seem to be a tradition here in Texas, I assure you when you have a baby in Mississippi, your precious new bundle is greeted with a fabulous, over the top wreath. My first daughter had a fluffy pink feather wreath, that we then used when the Princess was born. You should have seen the looks we received at Baylor when we placed that ring of fluff on my door. My son was welcomed by a darling bear sent by his Pop Pop and Nana. I digress. All of this to say, I was smitten at first site with this wonderful stuff called Mesh Ribbon. I had no idea where to get it here, but I knew I had to have some. Last week when I was in Sam's there it was, two pallets of it in the most festive of colors, complete with sparkle of course. I had to have some, although I had no idea what to do with it. (I also fell prey to two rolls of fantastic wired ribbon and a giant package of Christmas ornaments.)
As I drove up to my door flush with excitement over my purchases, my eyes were drawn to this tired old wreath that greeted my Holiday guests. I was inspired and knew exactly what I wanted to do.
Wow.. just realized how bad my front door looks. Guess that will be what I work on tomorrow!
I convinced the Princess to help me re-do our wreaths. She was pretty excited to be a part of anything that requires Mommy to use wire cutters. You can see her just on the edge of the photo here. She was busy sorting out the new ornaments into attractive groupings of three, while I attached the Mesh Ribbon to my wreath form.
The box of ornaments that caught my eye...please forgive the stuff in the background. This photo was taken before the boxes and things went back into storage. I adore candy striped things and just had to have the ornaments, even more so when I saw the ones with "ho, ho" printed on them.
I cut the floral wire and the Princess carefully placed three ornaments at a time on each wire.
I twisted, and placed her ornament bouquets and volia, our new and much more gracious wreath was born.
We also created our mantle display. She loved being able to give me direction on where to place things. Who knew she had such a good eye for decor?
She kept demanding more and more ornaments so they are piled high behind our stocking hangers. I was really tickled with the final result, even though I doubted her at first. She said, "I told you all of those would look pretty Mommy, you just have to trust me." Trust her I did and I am pleased to admit she was right.
What new and different Holiday decor are you putting up this year?11:40 PM
