Deer Little CupcakesDecember 19, 2010I was telling you about the cute Reindeer cupcakes I made for our Playgroup Christmas Party. They were a bit more challenging than I planned, but only because I lost the Family Fun Magazine with the directions! Not to mention I waited until the morning of the party to ice and decorate them.
First you need to bake and ice cupcakes with chocolate icing. If my kiddo was not allergic to nuts, I would have purchased the cupcakes and just asked they be plainly iced with chocolate icing.
Here is a photo of the mess I made while working on them. I was in such a rush I did not take many photos of the actual process. You can see the mini cupcake I was using to practice my eye making skills... naturally I forgot to buy the mini marshmallows, so I just used white icing. Let's just say Tuesday morning was not one of my finer hours.
Yes, I even ran out of vanilla wafers... that is what I get for giving some to my son while I was shopping in Target the day before. I may have been guilty of eating a few myself.... so I just created snouts out of a lighter brown icing. Also, I remembered the recipe called for red M&M's to be used for the nose, but since M&M's are processed with peanuts, they are a No No at our house, so some red icing worked just fine.
I think even with all the substitutions my little herd turned out super cute.
The little guys were just darling. I make small and large cupcakes as some of the kiddos (and Mommies as well) in our group prefer a smaller cupcake. I know my gal LOVES icing, and always chooses the largest cupcake with the most icing, but only eats the icing.
I was so tickled with the results, I took a few to many photos at the end, and was late for playgroup.
I knew no one would care about my late arrival, after all I had the cutest little guests with me.
My Princess was more than a little annoyed that I wanted to grab a quick photo of her holding her cupcake. She said, "Mom, I just want to eat it!"
My poor little reindeer... seems their ears were the first things to go. I can hardly blame the kiddos. Tootsie rolls are so delish!
So just for you here is another card you can just click on and download. Just like the
S'mores Card from the previous post.
I hope you make these cute little guys. If you do, will you please post a photo to my
Facebook Page? I would love to see your little herd,
and you will be entered to win a free 11 x 14 with your next booked photo session.
I'm sharing these cute fellows here:
