Night Before Christmas Vaughan StyleDecember 25, 2008Tonight my first Christmas Eve in Texas was spent.
For normally to Mississippi our clan has went.
So my parents they drove over here for a change.
To not be with my darling brother was strange.
I decided a Christmas Eve party to throw.
To surround myself with my "new" family you know.
Kids ran around and with toys did play,
Parents ate tons of food, it was good they all say.
(New Texas Friends! Y, I am so glad you parents were able to join us. They are great.)
(For all of you who read the blog... here is J, and her family. Look baby M made her debut before Christmas!)
My Christmas china did make an appearance.
My sterling glittered with holiday brilliance.
Photos of the spread I neglected to take.
I was busy with prep and people for goodness sake.
(Wonder what Santa is bringing me tonight!)
My Aunt, Uncle and cousins at the party were lacking.
My thoughts raced to Christmas past when
turtle cookies we were attacking.
I missed my extended family not near,
I thought why was my poem from Geoffery not here?
I took a deep breath and for a moment I paused.
Christmas was not just about cards, gifts and Santa Claus.
It matters not in the long run the amount of gifts under the tree,
No Christmas is about love shared from God to you and me.
I glanced around and I knew I was blessed.
I have family and friends I need not be stressed.
We joined our Princess and the tree provided the light that we would need.
So several Christmas books aloud we could read.
We sang carols in the soft yellow light.
Shortly thereafter the Princess to sleep, we hope for the night.
The kitchen was cleared,
And gifts were placed under the tree, as Christmas neared.
Cookies and truffles, for Santa, with cocoa were left out.
Hoping stockings would be filled and we would not have to pout.
To bed we all went to rest for the morrow.
A day to be filled with laughter, no sorrow.
I awoke a little later to find the cookies had been well received.
Gifts were left for everyone since in Santa we all believed.
I grabbed my camera and took a few frames.
They are not my best work, but hey it is night,
And please do remember I am a photographer who prefers natural light.
Surrounded by blessings my heart swelled with praise,
That God still loves us, even with our silly Santa ways.
I hope that you are so richly blessed too.
That your heart and your home are filled with those dearest to you.
(not sure why I look so solemn.....)
