Saturday Morning SillinessFebruary 28, 2009What is photography all about anyway? To me it is about connections. A connection to the past, the connection between a father and his daughter, the sweet bond between siblings, even the connection we share with our beloved pets. Life is speeding by us and it so important to create markers and milestones along the way. It is a way to hold on to a special moment for a lifetime.
I believe the small moments, the ordinary things and the everyday exchanges can be just as special. What do you recall fondly of your childhood? It is not just the graduations and the birthdays, but the moments we remember are the moments of connection. I remember Saturday mornings, crawling in bed and waking my parents. I treasure the memory of baking chocolate chip cookies with my Aunt. The memory of my Grandfather stealing all of the caramel squares from my Christmas stocking always brings a smile to my face. My Grandmother rolling out her homemade dumplings on the kitchen counter. These memories stir our emotions and that is exactly what a great photo should do.
My husband's mother is in town this weekend, so please forgive the lack of Fun Friday Photos yesterday. So as I watched my daughter lovingly wrap her arm around my husbands neck this morning, I knew what today's blog would be. It would be about the connections that are so important. You see, the Princess was up, but Daddy did not want to get out of bed, so when I brought her downstairs she snuggled up to Daddy to coax him up and into the den for Saturday morning TV. It was so cute and silly. A moment of connection between the two of them that I was blessed to observe.
I will say in the interest of full disclosure, there is no way they would have still been snuggling by the time I got up and grabbed my camera, so these images were created by bribing our girl with a sucker!
Hope everyone is having a great Silly Saturday of their own. Grab your camera, shoot a few frames and hold onto a memory for a lifetime.
